Gerard Butler Being Funny Dad Bod
These Celeb Dad Bods Will Make You Rethink the Kind of Man You Want
Mon Dec 27 2021
We all know that Hollywood has ridiculously unrealistic beauty standards for women, but we rarely talk about the absurd expectations of men. For every girl who thinks she has to look like Barbie, there's a guy who thinks that he has to look like G.I. Joe. Well, we're here to tell you that dad bods are officially hot, and these celebrities are proving it!
These sexy celebs are a bit heavier in real life than how we're accustomed to seeing them, and we're here for it! Let's ditch the spray-on abs, the photoshop, and the ridiculous diets and workout regimes. There's absolutely nothing wrong with being cuddle-sized. In fact, many of us prefer it.
Magic Mike Has Still Got the Magic
Like many of us, Channing Tatum put on some weight during the pandemic, 10 pounds to be exact. The actor says that he is now "fappy," which means "fat and happy." Does he really not hear how that sounds, though? He claims that fans wouldn't want to see him shirtless right now, but we beg to differ.
Channing's Magic Mike body was achieved by working out for three hours a day! While the results were amazing, we can definitely see how he may be happier now that he's let himself put on a few pounds. Let's just be honest: a happy man is a sexy man.
This Star Is Making a Comeback
Dax Shepard has never been large per se, although he has typically been extremely fit. However, he hit a bought of depression which caused him to gain some weight. Now that he's doing much better, he's dedicating himself to not only losing weight but also gaining muscle mass. We think he looks great either way, as long as he's healthy!
Dax spoke about his newfound commitment to fitness, saying "Mentally, I love it because it makes me far more on fire to be alive. I was depressed after CHIPS. I was literally retiring, that was the plan, I'm out… All of a sudden I was on fire to work… This is the version I enjoy."
This Celebrity Had to Deal With Fat-Shaming
Gerard Butler had to deal with a significant amount of fat-shaming when he gained a bit of weight. People seemed to take issue with the fact that men still get leading roles after they gain weight, and women do not. We agree with that being a problem, but how is this Gerard's fault? We think this is an extreme case of misplaced blame.
So far, Gerard hasn't shown much interest in following his haters' advice of getting "back in shape." We think that he looks great either way. We also argue that Hollywood's unfairness in casting should be dealt with via casting directors, not random actors who are daring to just live their lives.
Do You Prefer a Superhero Bod or a Dad Bod?
Robert Downey Jr. got ridiculously fit to play Iron Man, so it makes sense that he relaxed a bit between movies. He looks happy and healthy, either way, so it's really just a matter of personal preference of which body type makes him feel more confident. That being said, we're all for trading in the classic superhero bod for a cuddly dad bod, instead.
Getting in shape for Iron Man required such a strict diet that Robert actually hid food on set. Apparently, he'd bring his own food into work and sneak bites here and there. You know that's some pretty unrealistic body expectations when you literally have to sneak around in order to eat.
This Dad Got Called Out for Having a Dad Bod
Jason Momoa is a proud dad of two and the owner of a fantastic physique. When filming for Aquaman, Jason spent a minimum of two hours a day at the gym and had an incredibly restrictive diet. Unfortunately, fans don't seem to be particularly grateful, as the moment Jason went back to his pre-Aquaman regime, everyone began to body shame him.
Let's be honest, if any of us saw a guy with this type of body just chilling on the beach, we'd think he's incredibly fit. However, since Jason is a celebrity, we expect him to look perfectly chiseled all the time. Do people really expect the man to never eat a slice of pizza, or never skip a gym day, again for the rest of his life?
We'd Watch Fat Ryan
When taking a break from filming Jack Ryan, John Krasinski put on a bit of weight. He joked that he was worried about getting back to filming with his new physique. He said, "I am totally ready to shoot. We just need to change the name of the show to Fat Ryan. Then, let's do it." We'd watch that.
John said that his wife, Emily Blunt, helped him get back on track before filming resumed. John admitted that he had to train twice a day, five days a week, in order to resume his role. While we're all for dedicating oneself to living a healthy lifestyle, we'd still watch the show all the same, regardless of the actor's weight.
This Actor Needed a Change
Kit Harington needed a change in life after filming Game of Thrones, and it seems that he got exactly that! The actor got sober, got married, and had a baby. Throughout all of these monumental life changes, he also put on a bit of weight, which is fair enough.
Kit has said that he's never been happier, so we truly don't think that he's mourning the loss of his six-pack. He has far more important things to concern himself with, now, so it makes sense if he can't make it to the gym as often. To be fair, he had to get a dad bod in order to match his new role as a father.
Someone Needs to Tell This Star to Stop Covering Up
Leonardo DiCaprio was just 22-years-old when he first became an official heartthrob through the movie Titanic. Now, at 47-years-old, it's completely natural that his metabolism has slowed down a bit. However, Hollywood doesn't really care about what's natural, does it?
The actor has been consistently shamed for his "dad bod" to the point in which he covers himself up now. Lately, when at the beach, Leo wears a T-shirt or wraps a towel around himself in order to shield his belly from the paparazzi. We say, the more Leo, the better.
This Singer Has a Plan to Lose Weight
One Direction's Liam Payne has noticed his weight gain and he's not happy about it. While there's absolutely nothing wrong with his new figure, we do support his plan for how he's going to lose the weight. Liam says that he gained weight due to excessive drinking and he's hoping that cutting back on alcohol will get him to feel fit again.
He noticed the difference when watching one of his performances back. He claims, "I put a lot of weight on. What got me, I did one performance on TV with the BAFTAs and I was disappointed with myself. I didn't look how I wanted to look." We're happy that Liam's losing the weight for himself, and not for Hollywood's sake.
This Actor Got a Free Pass To Gain Weight
Mark Wahlberg got something that Hollywood very rarely gives out: a free pass to gain weight. The reason for the actor's golden ticket was the movie Stu, which required Mark to gain 20 pounds. While he didn't enjoy needing to eat every three hours, the actor did appreciate the short break from constantly needing to look perfectly fit.
Mark said that his team wanted him to gain weight safely and healthily but the actor was too excited to finally be able to eat normally again. He said, "I'm like, 'Dude, I've been on such a regime for so long, I just want to eat everything in sight.' I want to go to bakeries, I want to go to Denny's, I want to eat pancakes. I want to get everything that I could possibly get my hands on." Apparently, this is what happens when you're on an extreme diet for too long.
Imitation Is the Greatest Form of Flattery
After Will Smith posted a pic of his pandemic-induced dad bod, other celebrities followed in his footsteps. One of those celebs was Marlon Wayans. Marlon posted his own lockdown selfie, with the caption, "Hey Will Smith, posting my dad bod/quarantine body too." He also vowed to lose weight by summertime and get "in shape."
Many of Marlon's fans thought he was trying to troll, due to the fact that there's no obvious weight gain to speak off. His posts' comments read, "This ain't no dad bod." and "Why I feel like that's the best Marlon has ever looked. Keep the dad bod boo." Apparently, Marlon was serious as he's been documenting his weight-loss journey.
Alright, Alright, Alright
We're pretty used to seeing Matthew McConaughey looking perfectly ripped, but when the actor put on weight for his role in Gold, he had some serious trouble losing it. Although before he got to that point, he enjoyed having a relaxed diet for once in his very long career. He said, "I've had roles where I've lost a lot of weight, but for this one to gain a lot of weight. Gaining is much more fun!"
However, getting back into his Hollywood-approved shape was a lot less exciting. "I didn't think about it until I got there and when I did get there I noticed that quite a lot of fat had already settled in. I did have a few moments when I looked in the mirror and thought, 'This may be it, buddy!' "
Why Do Women Always Get the Blame?
Nick Jonas gained a bit of weight after getting married to Priyanka Chopra, as many newlywed couples often do. However, fans were quick to blame Priyanka, as if her husband's weight is her responsibility and not his. We don't think anyone deserves "blame" for Nick's weight gain, but it is interesting that it somehow became the woman's "fault."
Nick and Priyanka were transparent about the fact that they were enjoying married life together and hitting the gym a bit less than usual. They were also enjoying going out and eating together as a newly married couple. Plenty of happy couples gain a bit of weight at the beginning of their relationship, there's no reason for Hollywood couples to be any different.
We've Never Even Heard of the Stuff This Guy Eats
After hearing about Orlando Bloom's daily routine, we can't really blame him for falling off the wagon a bit. The actor claims that he has to "earn" meals by doing workouts. Because, you know, your body needing food for fuel isn't reason enough to eat.
He starts each day with "some green powders that I mix with brain octane oil, collagen powder for my hair and nails, and some protein." Then, he goes off to do a workout so that he can "earn" his breakfast. This unhealthy relationship with food could be what caused Orlando to eventually give up on his routine and gain a bit of weight. Maybe now, he'll choose a diet that's a bit more realistic.
Yeah… No, Thanks
Paul Rudd explained what it took for him to get into shape for Ant-Man and we completely understand why he lost his perfect physique after filming. He explained, "eliminate anything fun for a year, and then you can play a hero." Yeah… thanks, but no thanks.
While Paul did look incredible in Ant-Man, he looks much happier now that he's put on a bit of weight. We have no doubt that he's making up for the year he lost cutting out all the little joys in life. This is just another perfect example of how Hollywood really has to learn some moderation.
Beauty Is Subjective
Hugh Jackman's wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, prefers her husband's dad bod over his chiseled Wolverine physique. She's said that she likes her husband to be more "cuddly" than he appears in the Wolverine movies. We get that, we wouldn't really want to hug a rock either.
Deborra also pointed out that Hugh is happier when he's a bit less chiseled. He can enjoy meals with his wife, he has more time at home, and he's a lot less stressed about his weight. We don't really blame him, keeping everything that fit, for the public, definitely looks stressful!
Maybe This Will Prevent Him From "Performing Blurred" Lines Again?
Robin Thicke has been looking a bit thicker than usual lately and it's definitely not a bad thing! Robin explained that he's focusing on his son, right now, rather than music. Meaning, he's not dealing with the spotlight or the typical Hollywood pressure to have the perfect body.
We're supportive of any body type he wants to have, as long as he stops pretending that "Blurred Lines" wasn't creepy. A break from music may be just what Robin needed. We know that the world definitely needs a break from his music, these days. So let's just call it a win-win.
This Is the Right Kind of Attitude!
Ryan Philippe has an extremely healthy attitude when it comes to fitness, and it shows! Whether he's a bit more toned, or a bit heavier, doesn't really matter. The point is that Ryan commits himself to being healthy. He works out for an hour and a half a day, five days a week, and he's been doing that for the past 20 years.
Ryan talks about his relationship with his body by saying, "If we work on taking care of ourselves in our 20s, 30s, and 40s, and you're consistent about that, it just makes the aging process a lot less brutal." We wish that everyone in Hollywood had this attitude and was obsessed with fitness for reasons like these.
He's Furious and Rightfully So
Fast and Furious star, Vin Diesel, is furious, and rightfully so. After being body-shamed for "relaxing" his figure a bit between movies, Vin clapped back at the haters. He took to Instagram to remind the public that "body-shaming is always wrong."
Vin further explained his different look by saying, "a) I don't have to be in front of the camera for a couple of months and b) I really am a dad." He continued by claiming, "I'm okay because I've had the best body in New York City for decades." While his last comment was a bit irrelevant, we do agree with his first sentiment: it's never okay to body-shame anyone.
Proof That We Just Can't Cut These Guys a Break
Zac Efron has inexplicably been labeled as having a dad bod and "letting himself go." If that's a dad bod then most of our fathers must be "huge". While the public took to social media to wonder what had happened to Zac, the answer was actually under our noses all along…
Zac has made it clear that he no longer wants to focus all of his energy on his physical appearance. He wasn't healthy or happy at the time that he was extremely chiseled, and he has recently shifted his focus to his mental health. He said that he was trying so hard to look fit that he even monitored how much water he drank so as not to appear bloated! It's time for Hollywood to understand: looking fit should never come at the expense of a person's health.
This Is Actually Sweet
Adam Levine put on a bit of weight for the sweetest reason ever. The singer explained that his pregnant wife, Behati Prinsloo, had a lot of pregnancy-induced cravings so Adam ate along with her. He referred to his extra pounds as "sympathy weight" and we actually think it's pretty cute.
Before and after Behati's pregnancy, Adam has been extremely dedicated to his fitness. He runs for 90 minutes a day, does yoga three days a week, Pilates once a week, and does strength training four to five days a week. It's no wonder that even Adam's version of a dad bod looks pretty damn good.
This Star Is Glad to Let Go a Little
John Legend was crowned the "Sexiest Man Alive" but must now pass the torch to Michael B. Jordan. John expressed that he couldn't be happier to be released of the burden, and looks forward to letting go a bit while in quarantine. Apparently, there's a specific reason he's excited to gain weight.
John's wife, Chrissy Teigen, is apparently an excellent cook! John seems to be looking forward to enjoying his wife's cooking, guilt-free, now that he can spend a bit of time out of the spotlight. He even joked that sometimes he has to go on tour just so he won't be tempted to eat Chrissy's delicious food all day. At least he's supportive…
This Actor Believes That He Has a Lot to Prove
Henry Cavill has always struggled with his weight and body image, leaving him with the feeling that he had a lot to prove, especially with the pivotal role of Superman. He says that he was called "Fat Cavill" as a child. So clearly, the kids he went to school with were both cruel and unoriginal.
Henry seems to still be carrying some of those scars as he feels that he needs to be perfectly chiseled for every single movie. He said, "I'm representing important characters here. I don't want to be a dumpy Geralt or a fat Superman." We argue that those characters can be both important and a bit more "average" looking, but whatever works for him.
We All Gain a Bit of Weight While on Vacation
Let's be honest, everyone gains a bit of weight on vacation, even A-listers like Bradley Cooper. While with his girlfriend, in Italy, Bradley was appearing slightly less fit than usual and it looked great on him! We can't really blame him for wanting to enjoy some Italian food, can we?
While the paparazzi were quick to notice Bradley's increased weight, he was just living his best life as a regular human being. It must be incredibly difficult to constantly be scrutinized and in the spotlight, so it makes sense that he's decided to loosen up a little while abroad. We're sure that his girlfriend loved his new look just as much as we do!
Proof That Crazy Diets Don't Work
While Adam Sandler was never seen as a heartthrob, per se, he's always held it together in terms of his physical appearance. However, during the pandemic, he put on a few pounds. Realizing his weight gain, Adam went on a strict diet which backfired immensely. If you needed proof that crazy diets don't work, this is it.
The diet that Adam tried was intermittent fasting, meaning that he was only allowed to eat at certain times of the day. However, he would get so excited to eat that he's end up overdoing it. He explained, "I allowed myself six hours a day to eat, but I would get so excited during those six hours that I just ate a lot of pizzas. I would look at the clock and go 'you got 40 minutes left to eat' and I would just go bananas." This is why eating healthy works and diet fads don't.
This Star Is Embracing His Beer Belly
Adrian Grenier recently started his own beer company, called Churchkey Canco, and he's clearly enjoying his own product! Given that the actor has been focusing more on work behind the camera, it makes sense that he doesn't feel the same pressure to stay perfectly chiseled anymore.
We all love a guy with a little chunk to him, and we definitely love when our date can throw back some beers with us! So, basically, Adrian has gone from the Hollywood version of the perfect guy to the realistic version of the perfect guy. Hollywood needs to start taking notes.
Clearly, JLo Likes It
Ben Affleck was on break while filming when a photographer snapped a particularly unflattering photo of him. It happens sometimes, even to the best of us. The New Yorker responded by writing an entire article titled "The Great Sadness of Ben Affleck." Yes, they wrote a whole article dedicated to one bad photo and one guy's weight gain.
Ben responded to the ridiculous article by saying, "I'm doing just fine. Thick skin bolstered by garish tattoos." Luckily, his fans weren't okay with the slanderous article and they jumped to Ben's defense. One fan wrote, "It is the most mean-spirited article I've read in a long time." While another said, "This seemed to have no point other than to body shame a person who feels depressed." We agree.
Some Say This Actor's Weight Cost Him His Career
It's extremely debatable what went wrong with Brendan Fraser's career. At one point, he was poised to be a long-term Hollywood A-lister, but his career came to a screeching halt despite his incredible talent. The exact reason for him getting blacklisted is something that no one can seem to agree on.
While some say that Brendan's career ended due to his extremely messy divorce and subsequent financial issues. Other people believe that Brendan's changing appearance, as he aged, deemed him unworthy to be a leading man. Whatever the reason for his disappearance, we miss having his talent grace our screens.
We Don't See a Problem Here
While some people are saying that Josh Brolin has gotten "pudgy" we don't see any problem at all! There's nothing wrong with being thick but this guy simply isn't. As usual, Hollywood's beauty standards are just ridiculous, as Josh looks like literally any other guy at the beach.
We all know that Josh has an incredibly intense workout schedule, so it makes sense that he took a couple of days off to spend some time with his family. That's really what this looks like here: He simply took a few days' break from hitting the gym. Whoever thinks he has a "dad bod" needs to get their eyes checked.
His Reputation Proceeds Him
Mario Lopez still looks amazing, as always, but there's definitely a bit more to him than we're used to seeing and people are taking notice. We already know that celebrities are subject to public scrutiny, but there's another reason that everyone's commenting on Mario's dad bod.
Mario is known for being a fitness guru and has even written several books on the subject of staying ripped as one gets older. Therefore, the public scrutiny of his physique is even more intense than that of his fellow celebrities. We still think he's incredibly fit and he definitely looks healthy, isn't that what his books are all about anyway?
This Actor Had No Idea That He'd Gained Weight
Matt Damon went through a phase in which he'd put on a few pounds but he had no idea! In fact, he was so confident that he looked the same, he thought his friend (and infamous prankster) George Clooney was messing with him. Luckily for dad-bod-lovers, Matt truly did gain a bit of weight.
Matt explained the incident by saying, "I had to go to a function and when I tried on my suit, it was too tight. My immediate thought was that my buddy George Clooney had hired someone to get into my closet and cut down my clothes. I seriously thought that – until my wife said, very gently, 'Do you think it might be that you've put on some weight?' " But did she love it as much as we do?
We'd Still Be Friends With Him
Matt LeBlanc looks a little bit different than when he played Joey in Friends but that makes sense seeing as how it's been a whopping 17 years since the show ended. Yet, Hollywood expects everyone to look as if they're frozen in time and the press hasn't been kind to Matt's changing body.
When a photo of a pudgier-than-usual Matt lying by the pool appeared in the press, the headlines were cruel. One read "Beached Male" which Matt said, "stung a little." Another read "Fat LeBlanc" which Matt thought "was clever." Luckily, the actor understands the career he got himself into, he says the commentary about his weight is "part of the ups and downs of Hollywood, so it doesn't really matter."
This Is the One Weight Gain We Can't Get Behind
Matthew Perry's weight gain is the only one that we can't get behind, not because of how he looks, but because of why his body changed the way it did. Matthew's weight has fluctuated greatly over the years, due to his substance and alcohol abuse.
Matthew admits, "I was a sick guy" and explained that the pressure of being on what's, arguably, one of the biggest sitcoms of all time, took its toll on his psyche. We're glad to say that the actor seems to be doing a lot better, now. He's paying it forward by helping others overcome the same addictions he did.
"Normal" Is Beautiful
Neil Patrick Harris is one of Hollywood's more modest celebrities. He enjoys his life with his family and doesn't openly pursue an overly lavish lifestyle. When speaking about his general public image, specifically his family life, Neil has said that he's "striving to be an example of normalcy."
While we're used to seeing him incredibly ripped and toned, Neil was recently spotted looking… normal. He looked happy, like he was having fun, fit, and healthy. We see nothing wrong here. Of course, people still had some comments about Neil's slightly less-toned body but he's having too much fun living life to care.
This Actor's Wife Received Some Second-Hand Shaming
Former James Bond actor, Pierce Brosnan, received some nasty body-shaming recently. To make matters even worse, the body-shamers commented on Pierce's wife's body, as well. The attack came from Teen Mom star, Janelle Evans, and her husband, David Eason.
Pierce had posted a lovely photo of him and his wife, on social media, which somehow prompted the reality stars to shame the happy couple. Janelle tagged her husband in the photo and said, "This is us." To which David replied, "We do not look that fat." Janelle answered, "Close to it." Luckily, this nasty commentary hasn't affected Pierce or his wife, and why should it? He's James Bond!
That's One Way to Get Out of the Public Eye
Rob Kardashian had had enough of being a reality TV star and he wanted out from his family's hit show Keeping Up With The Kardashians. That being said, how are you supposed to get out of being on reality TV when your entire family is on the show and filming takes place in your house?
Well, you gain a lot of weight, that's how. Rob hasn't explicitly said that's why he gained weight, and it may have been subconscious, but it's the timing is undeniable. Whenever Rob wants out of the spotlight, he gains a few pounds. When he wants to be famous again, he loses weight. It's not a bad strategy.
No One Should Risk Their Health for a Movie
Russell Crowe once put on a whopping 63 pounds for a movie role and now he's doing it again! The actor consistently ping-pongs between muscular figures, like his role in Gladiator, and heavy-set characters, like in his new movie Unhinged. While both body types are beautiful, it's the constant fluctuation between them that's unhealthy.
Apparently, Russell volunteers to change his weight for his roles, rather than putting on bodysuits that would give him the same desired appearance. The actor is known for being extremely dedicated to his craft and valuing authenticity. While that's extremely admirable, we believe that he should be equally dedicated to his health, too.
Proof That, in Hollywood, You Just Can't Win
Sam Smith is living proof that no one will ever be good enough for the public's standards. The singer has lost, and gained, significant amounts of weight over the course of their career. Yet, the public doesn't seem to be happy with either one of their looks.
No matter what weight Sam is, people feel the right to voice their opinions and criticism. When Sam lost weight, fans complained that they looked "sickly" and wondered if they were suffering from substance abuse. Yet, when Sam gained was heavier, the public criticized them for being "chubby." You just can't win, in Hollywood, can you?
What Goes Around Comes Around
Simon Cowell got hit with a nasty bit of karma when fans began to fat-shame him for his new look. While we never believe that fat-shaming is okay, under any circumstances, we do see the irony here. Simon is known to have fat-shamed several contestants on the reality shows he works as a judge on, so maybe he had this one coming.
In fact, there was one incident in which he told a contestant on The X Factor that she was too fat to make it as a singer. However, what Simon didn't know at the time was that contestant was seven months pregnant. While we don't see anything wrong with his body at all, it is nice to see him getting a taste of his own medicine.
Size Shouldn't Matter
Chris Noth fans know that he played Mr. Big in Sex and the City, named for his big personality. However, when it came time to film the movie, the director had an issue with the size of Chris's stomach. Chris seemed okay with the advice he received, although we don't know what his physical size has to do with his character.
Chris said, "When we were doing the movie Sex and the City, Michael Patrick King came up to me and said, 'Listen, dude, we're not calling you Mr. Big because of the size of your stomach, so go lose that before we start shooting.'" Chris obliged, but should he have?
Even Retired Stars Get Body-Shamed
When Jay Cutler retired from the NFL, he probably thought that he wouldn't have to keep up his intense exercise regimen and he could enjoy having a normal body. At least, that's what should have happened. Unfortunately, body shamers attacked the former star's appearance, despite the fact that he's no longer a professional athlete.
Jay responded by ignoring the haters but his wife, Kristen Cavallari, struggled to do the same and we can't say we blame her. After getting into several online arguments, Kristen explained, "I've been dealing with criticism since I was 17. When it's me, I can handle it, I can take it. I have thick skin. When it's about my kids or my husband, I get really defensive. And then I become a little fighter, and I've been known to get a little trigger-happy sometimes."
We Still Think He's Sexy
Johnny Depp was once named the "Sexiest Man Alive" and we still think that he deserves the title! Now, there's just a bit more of sexy Johnny to go around. However, it seems that this star's weight gain didn't come from a place of being content with life and enjoying good food.
The timing of Johnny's new look coincides with his nasty divorce from actress, Amber Heard, leading fans to believe that the actor's weight gain came from an emotional place. While we don't see anything wrong with Johnny's new figure, we do hope that the actor can reach an emotionally healthy place again soon.
This Actor Refused to Entertain Rude Questions
Different celebrities have different strategies for dealing with rude interview questions and Keanu Reeves is no different. Being the class act that he is, he simply refused to entertain a question about his weight. When the interviewer asked Keanu about his fuller figure, the actor aptly replied, "Wow, that's f**ked up."
Keanu's weight gain has sparked an amusing internet theory about him, that could very well be true. Fans have long speculated that Keanu is immortal, due to the fact that he seemingly doesn't age over the years. Therefore, they now believe that the actor put on weight in an attempt to throw them off from "discovering" that he does not age as normal humans do. You know you're epic when putting on a few pounds inspires conspiracy theories.
This Celeb Is Shedding His Dad Bod for the Right Reasons
While there's nothing wrong with appearing a little bit fuller, some people chose to lose weight for reasons that aren't about their looks. Kevin Federline wanted to shed his dad bod so that he'd have more energy to play with his kids. Now that's a reason for weight loss that we can get behind!
Kevin explained, "I loved to eat pizza and pasta. So between not working out, and turning 30 years old, the weight started coming on real fast. I had my own mother telling me she's worried about my health. I couldn't run around with my children as much and was being lazy and over-eating. I've always been a fit guy, so those were wake-up calls for me."
This Actor Wants Men to Be More Open About Body Image
Society has a tendency to shame men for showing sensitivity, and then we wonder how we end up with so much toxic masculinity in the world. Matt McGorry wants men to speak up more about their issues with body image and the pressures all genders face to appear perfect.
The actor quit bodybuilding and seems to be far happier for it! He said, "When I had my first shirtless scene in Orange Is the New Black, those same ideas crept into my mind again. I did some unhealthy crash dieting. And now, I look back and I think that's really sad… I hope that discussions of body issues and self-criticism will become more of a conversation among men."
This Star Regrets His Weight Gain
Many actors put on weight for various roles, it's simply part of the job. However, Ryan Gosling regrets gaining weight for his role in The Lovely Bones, as it actually cost him the part! Apparently, the actor assumed that he should get a dad bod in order to play a dad in the movie but the director had never asked Ryan to do that. In the end, Ryan was replaced by Mark Whalberg, who did not put on any pounds for the film.
We appreciate Ryan's logic that his character should look like what he is: a typical dad who is going through an emotionally difficult time. Unfortunately, Hollywood didn't agree and Ryan said that for a while he was "fat and unemployed" due to the miscommunication.
Starring in The Hunger Games Left Him Hungry
Sam Claflin reminds fans that it's not just female celebrities who feel pressured to look perfect. He said, "I get really worked up to the point where I spend hours and hours in the gym and not eating for weeks to achieve what I think they're going for."
Luckily, age and experience seem to have taught Sam to loosen up a bit. However, he did recall what he used to put up with: "I remember doing one job when they literally made me pull my shirt up and were grabbing my fat and going 'You need to lose a bit of weight.' This other time they were slapping me. I felt like a piece of meat."
People Need to Get Their Priorities Straight
Wentworth Miller got a beautiful dad bod as the result of a not-so-beautiful time in his life. Unfortunately, all the media cared about was the actor's new figure, rather than what he was going through emotionally. Luckily, Wentworth is doing better now but society still has what to learn.
Wentworth explained, "In 2010, at the lowest point in my adult life, I was looking everywhere for relief/comfort/distraction. And I turned to food. It could have been anything. Drugs. Alcohol. Sex. But eating became the one thing I could look forward to… And I put on weight. Big fu**ing deal."
Do Dad Bods Bring Wisdom?
There seems to be a correlation between celebrities getting dad bods and getting a bit wiser. Maybe it's because they're finally getting enough nutrients to their brains? Or maybe it's just that when a person gets the word "dad" associated with them, they immediately gain some wisdom?
Charlie Puth responded to criticism over his fuller appearance by wisely saying, "Just a very quick reminder that it's not cool to body shame anyone. Not entirely sure what the purpose of it is." Is there ever a purpose for body shaming? We can't think of a single good reason for it.
